Nicely done !!! . . And I like how you have used the SKM-88 clicker in your mods. . I do that quite a bit too. . But you've done more.

You also replaced the upper plated tube with a smaller diameter brass tube and then used Thuya as a barrel to cover that brass tube.

I am wondering how you modified the kit hardware pieces to accept that upper brass tube.
And also how you kept the size of that brass tube down so that you could fit the Thuya over top of it, keeping the final size same as lower barrel.
Maybe you had to do some machining of the kit hardware pieces.

If you don't mind, could you explain how you did all of that, please .. Thanks. . I hope it is not too complicated ... and not too much trouble.

Mal if your going to make this kit, you'll need the following parts, cabara/polaris nib, a longer 13/32 brass tube, i used the craft supplies mahattan brass tube, skm-88 clicking mechanism, you'll need a m7x.075 tap and a m9x.0075 tap for the nib coupler, the clip receiver you'll need to modified that, the end that goes next to the finale you turn that down to fit the 13/32 tube, you have to make custom bushings so you can turn the smaller wood tube 5/8" long and you have to modify the finial to fit the 13/32 brass tube also your drill the finial and tap it so you can screw in the clicking mechanism, so other the the clip everything is modified, the pen complete is 5.5" long, i think that's a little bit longer than the diverse twist pen

Hi Bill,

Aha !!! . . I was right in thinking that you had to make several modifications at the finial end. .
Thanks for letting me know the details !

I plan to do just the pen, but not the pencil.

I have done quite a bit of work with the SKM-88 click mechanism, so I have the necessary tap.
I think I can figure out what to do there.

I did not realize that you also changed the nib over to a Carbara/Polaris nib.
Is that really necessary ? . Or is that to better adjust the overall length so as to better accept the refill once you make the other changes ?

I would appreciate your clarification of this. . I hope it is not too much trouble to explain.

Don't worry too much. . If I run into trouble I can always send you a message.

I like modifying kits in this way .... makes me think I am doing something more than just "following instructions" ! ... LOL !

I have not made a Diverse pen kit before, so this will be an interesting challenge.
Maybe I should first make one without the modifications in order to get the "hand of it" !

Thanks again.

All the best,
Mal

no you don't have to change the nib, and i know that's sierra trade mark, so i hope i don't step on anyone toes, but i like to make long tube pens to show of the blank, if i remember i pick up almost 5/8" by changing the nib, also i not here to offend anyone, but for me the diverse pen kit is to much metal, so i changed it up a little, made it with the skm-88 clicking mechnism and probably made the first clicking pen and pencil set

Oh, you're not offending anyone, I don't think ..... certainly not me.

Thanks for your reply .... It is good to get "your take".

Sounds like I can do whatever I have to do to make to make it work.
I know there will be some fiddling around to get the length right, no matter which nib I use.

I agree that the nib portion of the Diverse pen kit seems a little too long.
So I will think about what to do when the time comes ..... I have another "little" project on the go. . The Diverse mods will be next, I think..

With regard to the Diverse ..... and the mods that you made ..... the two parts could seem, to some people, to be out of proportion.

With your mods the top piece of wood is a lot shorter than the bottom piece of wood.
I might try to make them more nearly the same. . But that could screw up the positioning of the clip ...... I'll see what I come up with when I switch my mind over to tackling the Diverse mods.

Thanks again, Bill
