I was in danger of hopping nervously from one leg to the other all weekend, waiting to find out if I managed to make last place in the kitless contest... and then decided to make two pens meanwhile:

I did the one in Bocote first, and obviously it did not turn out great - some tolerances were off, and when pressing it together, the wood splintered at the top of the pen.

The red one is in Kirinite Rioja and I am pleased with it, although the finish could still be better. Fantastic material, it has a great, well, red wine swirl I guess to it - for want of a better description.

Both are based on Slimline kits.

That top one looks like the centre band is invisible!!!
True - I would have taken the time to make proper photos, but literally minutes after I had finished the top one, my sister in law walked in and fell in love with it, so I hastily took this photo and parted with it.

The centre band is made from white acrylic. One disadvantage of giving the slimlines a larger waist is that I cannot use a centre band in the same trim as the rest of the kit.

Peter, it's good that your pens are in demand. Well done you. If they are going out the door before you can take a picture you must be well pleased.
I use streamline pen kits instead of slimlines as there is more meat to play with.
