Harbor Freight has a few good deals until Xmas.

They have a 5 speed bench top mini lathe for 169.99. It actually looks like a Rikon at first glance.

They also have a 5 speed bench top drill press for 49.99.

Just a few things if you're in the market for them.

I'm definitely picking up a box or two of the nitrile gloves, that's for sure...

It's the mini lathe...65345

If not for the taper, I would consider one. It's like the Jet in green and plastic covers for the pulley's.

My first lathe I got from HF a 14x40. Keep in mind the spindle threading, they are very odd sizes. My ended up being a 3/4x10TPI which I couldn't get any chucks for it or adapters for 2yrs. until PSI came out with some. If they are not cast iron, most likely stamped sheet metal which was also what mine was. The tailstocks are not true and have a lot of play in them to center them to the work. At first $89.00 I thought couldn't go wrong to get into turning. But I probably spent more close to $200 just in adapters alone to turn anything. Even then some of the projects were out of round. Just my thoughts on HF lathes.

I just upgraded to the Nova 1624-44 and LOVE it.

The lathe is a MT1. Keep that in mind for accessories.

If not for the taper, I would consider one. It's like the Jet in green and plastic covers for the pulley's.

I looked at the HF website listing with the reference to MT1 and note that the manual does not mention what the headstock taper is only the tail stock as being MT2.

MT1 headstock taper is not correct for Item 65345.

Today I carried a MT2 center and a 1x8 nut to Harbor Freight to confirm a few things in my mind. The MT2 center fit perfectly as did the 1x8 nut.

I also found out that Harbor Freight will not allow the coupon for $169.99 and a 20% coupon on the same item. It is one or the other so a 20% coupon would give a better deal at $159.99.

I am trying to pick up one of these for a special purpose so I am going to wait for a published sale price and use a 20% coupon. Hope to get it for around $145 and can wait them out :)

Anyway the headstock taper is MT2 for that lathe.

Well guess you won't need the coupon. If you change your mind I mailed it to you today. Best of luck on your adventure.

I just went by what the description card listed at the store. If it is a MT2, that is a real good deal.

I have one of the HF 65345's. I got it for my b-day in October. The manual that comes with the lathe says MT1. The online manual says MT2 in the tail stock. It is MT2 on both the head and tail stock. I have found a few more errors in both the online and paper manual's. Overall, the only drawback to this lathe is it isn't VS, but that wouldn't stop me from getting another. IMHO this is an excellent tool
