I have a Jet mini and I read where everyone replaces the stock live cetner with a 60* unit. I've looked through some catalogs, but they don't specifically say what degree they are.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

I just ordered several of those to give away in the donation drawing. I use that one and I also have the heavy duty one from LMS.

Woodturningz just had them advertised in their January sale.....(edit in)not vouching, just directing. I personally have two from LMS and I find that one runs hotter than the other...go figure...[:)]

Joe, nothing against Woodturningz, or their customer service, but their 60 degree live centers are from PSI. The first one I got from Ryan failed within minutes and he replaced it straight away. The second failed after six months. I even replaced the bearings in it with high quality sealed bearings and it only turned for about five minutes. I can spin it freely by hand, but up against a mandrel and it just sits there. I'd go with one from LMS, or even Grizzly first.

Take yer pick. I have the H3408, it does just fine.

Thanks, but I guess that's my question. When I go to the Grizzly website they don't tell you what the * is. I am assuming the H3408 is 60*, why don't they just list that in the descriptions?

I don't know why it is not listed. From here, and other lists, I believe some have said that 60 degree is standard. Perhaps the ad writers assume everyone purchasing that product knows that. Grizzly employees are pretty knowledgable, just ask.

Yeah, I tried that PSI 60 degree center and had problems with it as well. I was working on a pen and it locked up cold, I did not notice it right away. A little puff of smoke caught my eye, where the center meets the end of the mandrel was starting to turn red from the friction.

I had to toss it, and I replaced it with this one.

This is the heavy duty center from Little Machine Shop. This is BIG and solid. I think that this one is going to last.
