What kind of wood???

Aloha Everyone,
I have no idea what kind of wood this is,a neighbor gave it to me and he has no idea.Its pretty heavy and clogs the drill bit like ebony.Not the best pic but I will try again. Any guesses would be great.Took it to a local wood dealer here and nope,no idea.

Ipe? Just a guess. What ever it is it's sure pretty. You need to cut me a large piece to send to me for further inspection :biggrin::biggrin:

The grain and fact that it clog the drill bit can make it bocote

What you are showing apears to be end grain and I agree with arioux - Bocote.

There is a variety of olive in the islands. I think it is called olopua??

Yup it is end grain,at least i can look up ipe,bocote and olopua? Dont think its from here,asked a couple of wood workers here and they arent sure.Thanks for the in put

i did some looking and it does look like bocote,thankyou for all of your help

I've found that bocote smells like dill pickles when cutting/sanding. The grain looks somewhat like rosewood as well. Rosewood also has a distinctive smell when cutting/sanding.
