I am looking to get a grinder to sharpen my lathe tools.
What does everybody use? Wet/Dry? And anything to look for when buying a new one?

Thought I would ask the more experienced turners here for some advice.

You may have already figured out dry grinders lot cheaper than wet grinders, in an ideal world having both would be ideal. Buying locally has many advantages whether you pay a little or a lot of money for a bench grinder. Guess my way of saying ask about stores return policy.

Dry grinders whether running 1725 or 2450 RPM's will serve you well. I use a 6"wheel dry bench grinder, but will buy an 8" when this one dies. In the U.S. most grinders made in China, so not sure if brand name really matters. Not sure how that works up in Canada.

White, pink, and blue aluminum oxide friable wheels do a fine job of sharpening turning tools. Normally have to order them separately.

Also recommend One Ways Wolverine Sharpening system for a dry grinder.

Tormek, Jet, and Grizzly all make wet grinders and have a strong and loyal following. People like using Tormek jigs on the other brands.

JMHO, think dry grinder is the way to go starting out because of cost to buy and maintain.
