As a new turner I have seen a large number of the ones mentioned in previous posts, and have a lot of them on my next list.
I will state that all of the wood turning videos,I have seen are of better production quality than a whole lot of knife maker, blacksmithing and other subject matters ones.
I got real tired after the second DVD that cost an arm and leg above $50.00 on an aspect of knife making. I quit buying a pig in a poke type deal. They had great reviews turns out the two good ole boys and family are the reviewers!
Little good info, shot in a garage, with the door open and window unblocked an air compressor running when no air was being used poor lighting, one of the boys blocking the shots with his hands or seat cushion. Oh yeah and they appeared to have the nest part of a case consumed.
To illustrate they used a broken open brown cardboard box with a #2 pencil. I could go on but you get the picture, it appears they haven't seen the video let alone know what editing is.
Shortly after that purchase I found Smartflix.com a technical video rental place on the net. They cover a lot of subjects and have a lot of wood working and turning videos. For rent, you can see what they are and then decide if you want to purchase them.
There has been a lot of BS about them spread on the internet. Almost all is crap since the guys like the "Ole boys" have lost a lot of their sales due to people finding out how bad their DVD's are.
And you have to remember anybody with the price of a DVD camera and a computer can sell DVD's with sharpie titles.
I have had only one problem and the took care of it promptly, I am also a member of their university program. I get 3 assorted video's a month. It is a lot cheaper way to learn about something than buying them and find out that they are worth the cost of postage!
I will also say that whether the wood turning DVD's have been on chisels or turning bowls, pens or other items. It has been worth the money. Only downside is Contiguous states only.
