Using square carbide tip as skew?

Hi all! I have the Rockler three carbide chisel kit for turning pens. When I first began turning pens I used a small gouge and skew. I liked the control I got with the skew, but with acrylics is wasn't smooth sailing. The carbide helped solve that problem. Can one use the square carbide cutter as a skew (that is approaching the blank from an angle)?

Absolutely! That is the premise behind the Magical Skew sold by several vendors and made by IAP member magicbob. It is the only tool I use.

Would it be fair to say try it and see how it works for you. I work better with certain tools. There are no rules(I think)

That's how I use my carbide tool. I went from exclusively skew to exclusively carbide.
