for this pau rosa pen that's on the lathe now. I've applied multiple coats of BLO/CA, using William Young's method:

I'm going to let the blanks sit overnight, and tomorrow I want to shine them up more. The question is, do I:

1) buff them with White Diamond first, then use plastic polish;

2) use plastic polish, then buff with White Diamond;

3) stick to acrylic; or

4) buy a pen from one of you guys and say I made it myself if anyone asks

I say try number 2 because that is similar to what he does at the end of the video.
If that doesn't work, see my website for number 4:biggrin:!

Out of your listed choices, i would say # 2.
The plastic polish is, in my experience, a step coarser than the buff with white diamond,
so you have the progression right.
On occasion though,you are going to mess up and that's just part of your learning
what works and why it works.
CA with BLO will not give ME consistent full gloss. Most of the time, yes. On rare occasions, it dulls. I go with staight CA for times when i don't want that risk.

Thanks! And johnny, I'll probably be buying some bushings and stuff from you soon, so I can go without mandrels. My pens are a wee bit out of round!
