I had some cane left over from a garden project and decided to give it a try. Has anyone else tried it?

In the pic, the one laying across is cane in the rough, the two on the right have been turned and sanded through 600 with no finish and the one on the left only has a tube in and squared.

I like to try local stuff. I saw someone use pine cone the other day. My back yard is full of the stuff. Guess I'll have to try that soon.

I am a newby here but you all are very generous with your help.

If you're gonna do pine cone, try to find cones from the Long Needle pine. Most are Loblolly, and the cores of those are way too small for turning pens. You want the spread on the base of the pine cone to take both hands to wrap all the way around bare minimum for half a blank.
