tip for scratched cds and dvds (now with pics)
For those with a Beall polishing system or the likes or just a single buffer like myself, you already have everything you need to remove small scratches from cds and dvds.
I had a cd that had been floating around unprotected and two tracks were no longer playable due to the scratches. I took it downstairs with the intent of using MM to sand the scratches out, but even using the finesh MM grade left it looking worse than it began. So I went and set up my buffer and used some Tripoli and got 99% of the scratches gone in about a minute, then I swapped to some white diamond and the surface looks as good as new.
Now this may not work on deep scratches, and definitely won't work on a scratch that hit the reflective layer, but for fine scratches, we can clean them up no problem.
