In case you do not know, you use different tools to turn a bowl then you use to turn a pen (or other spindle turnings). Using the same tools can be very dangerous.
Ken; There are several good Youtube videos on bowl turning. The main things you need is a chuck and a faceplate. A bowl gouge for the inside of the bowl, and possibly a bandsaw to round the blank before mounting on the lathe. Don't even try to turn a square piece of wood!!! :frown: Use any saw you have to make the blank round before mounting it on the lathe. Also you need to center the bowl blank on the face plate and start at the lowest speed you have. Make sure the lathe is solidly mounted. An off balance piece in the lathe can make the lathe do the cha-cha right across the floor!
Oh; last thought. look into wet wood turning vs dry wood turning.
