I haven't posted any of my pens lately. Y'know, at first when I joined I would post every pen I made, but I know they're not all the latest and greatest of my works. When I play around with a new material or style or technique, things don't always go so well so quickly, so I decided not to post the mistakes and failures/lessons.
The Tudor Twist pen kit is really quite nice! In the last three weeks, I had the chance to make three of them and liked each one. The kit is unique in the way the kit attaches to the blank. There is no twist mechanism to be inserted too far.
We all have an eye for what blanks we think will pair well with what kit. Sometimes, that match is made perfect. The Tudor Twist pen kit, in my opinion, looks perfect with a body of Box Elder Burl in blue/pink.
After turning my first tudor and a slimline, I prepped a creamy looking blank that had a few small brown swirly spots. I drilled it, I painted inside with a pinkish maroon acrylic paint. The color came out a bit more pink than I wanted with little of the brown character showing (it sort of looks like random spots on it now). Still a nice look.
I posted the two pens on Facebook and one of my friends liked the burled pen so much that they asked to buy it. A family friend thought of the same pen all weekend and ended up calling me to ask to purchase a custom pen but they really wanted the very same style and body. Unfortunately, CSUSA is out of stock, but when I checked my stock Friday, I saw that I had one last piece of it! She was able to take her new pen home with her the same day!
