Testing settings on XTool F1 Laser

By Jove, I think I've got it! Tested on a dowel with one coat of thin CA, then a fatally flawed pen barrel (not a good color to laser, but at least it makes use of it!). Seems to work well! I would prefer not to laser pens, frankly, but I have had quite a few requests for personalization.

Final setting was 100% power, 70mm/s speed, 1 pass. Dowel is birch, pen barrel is dyed spalted maple.

I bet you could fill the lasered area in the dyed spalted maple with something and it would look pretty good!

Is the F1 the one with the dual laser? Have you tried it on metal at all? I have been curious if metal engraving works well with that laser.
