Ya, my wife is not too keen on me taking the RV hunting. There are the drawbacks to RV's. That's a very nice setup you have.

This is my mountaineering tent. I use it on solo caribou, Dall sheep and mountain goat hunts. This pic was taken on a rare nice mid April day about 6 miles off the haul road. It was about 30 during the day and dropped below zero at night. There is never much snow on the slope because of the nearly continuous 75 mph winds coming off the arctic ocean. I left the haul road about 40 miles south of Purdhoe bay.

My wife and I go ultralight with a 6 pound Eureka Apex 2 person tent. I have a 3 pound MSR Zoid-1 for myself. I think as we get older we'll upgrade to roomier, more comfortable tents.

That's the second largest tent I've seen a family own. Way to go! The largest was basically a small house, and had room for a LOT of people. It was just one room, and old-school as all getout. I haven't been camping (unless you count falling asleep outside after one too many) since Dad took us as kids. He had a smooth old canvas tent that was extremely spacious, and EASY TO SPOT from quite a distance.

At 30 I would have laughed histarically at the wall tent...........15 years and braking my back changed that! I still use the ultra light equipment but I love my cot!

I used to fish the area around Kings canyon and the upper Kern river for golden trout Max, love little itty bitty high country streams and the wonderful fish that live in them.

Spent my teen years driving like crazy during the day, setting up tents at sundown, up at first light, breaking down tents, as our Church escorted groups of kids to Presbyterian Youth Fellowship group around the Country from Florida. It was a great way to spend the summer learning about people and places. I envy you, Rick, but too many creaky joints to do it anymore. If you run onto a guy named Chris Campbell doing something with aircraft up yonder, say Hi to him for me, as he is a far away cousin of mine.

Nice tent, where did you pick that up? I'm sure it wasn't Walmart, ha. After so many years in a Army GP Tiny I have now gone to a 33' camper for pleasure. Now hunting that's a different subject. Don't think I have ever been in a nice tent like that. Even this last October in Quebec for Caribou was not the nice. Let me know if you need help carrying the tent on your next aventure hunt, I can catch a MAC Flight and be on your front steps before you know it. Thanks for the pic's, I love to see families camping together and not playing computer games as such.

The tent is part of the guide series from Cabela's.......ya I know I dont normally get stuff from them but the quality and design of this tent are outstanding! A real surprise.
I'll keep your offer in mind, most of this years trips are covered, except.........well how do you handle cold? Altitude?
Couldn't agree with you more on taking the family afield, drives me nuts to hear dads say, "I just had to get away from the wife and kids!" Gunther has been archery hunting with me since he was a few weeks old for small game. There are a few hunts I do that are no place for momma and Gunther but those are my "spiritual" hunts. The family comes on all the "meat" hunts.

Sure is different than the old tent my Dad had when I was that lil one's age! Nice set up, the MR doesn't camp though. He did too much of it in the service so it's hotels now days for us older folks

Ummm looking at your Avatar I find it hard to believe your an "older folk"! I turn 44 in 5 days. We didn't have Gunther till after I turned 40.
To each his own but I have broken at least 2 bones in every skeletal group of my body including my back and head. August 17th of 2000 I was told Id never walk without a cane again let alone hunt. IMHO your not "old" till you allow yourself to be or you stop moving. That's how I have over come the daily pain and kept it from stopping me, I never stop moving.

The cold I can handel but the altitude I would need to climatize myself coming from 700' in Alabama. Colorado hunting no issue when chasing Elk and I've skydived at 13,500 so I'm ok. One day I will get to Alaska before I die. Take care.

We were share croppers as a really youngster and some of the houses weren't much better than better than your tent.... nowadays, if I could get my queen size sleep number bed in there on an outing, might talk about it... mostly talk though....:biggrin::biggrin:

Hogs are just becoming an issue here in north Alabama. Will check into and get back with you. I've only shot one hog down in Florida where I was raised and that's was enough for me. It had 4" tusk and one mean temper! He came in at just under 500 lbs and was the toughest thing to eat, ended up just making a lot of stew meat and pressure cooking a long time. But I must say it was a very fast pace hunt. More to follow.

boy the last tent i slept in made of canvas like that cabella tent was an army GP medium with a pot belly stove in west germany which had some really ugly mean boar packs that roamed our perimeter all day and night. one pack went right through a tent one day....haha... talk about alot of GIs yelling. the only thing that scared those boars were grenade simulators .
