Stopper # 2

[Band Saw Box]

Here is my second bottle stopper. I used these blanks Buy Laminated Hardwood Stopper Blanks (4) at Woodcraft.com I used a simple design that I really like. I had some bleed over from the Paduck which I think adds a nice accent to the blank. All C&C are welcome.

Very Nice. I think I like the shape better than your 1st. :good:

But I guess that's true with anything we turn. As a rule we do get better.

That one really turned out nice.
Do you have a shape in mind before you start turning?
I really enjoy making stoppers. Sometimes I go for a particular shape, but I usually don't decide until after I turn the blank round & even then, I just kinda go where the blank takes me.

I'll bet a hot air balloon shape would really be neat for that laminated wood.

I made a couple of stoppers from some checkered padauk & maple wood. My wife looked at them and said, "Those are nice but you should make one that looks like a hot air balloon." What can I say - it really did turn out better. Sure glad there's one person with an artistic eye in the family.:wink:

Here 'ya go Dan - it was part of this set that I made for my daughter & SIL last Christmas. Sorry about the harsh shadows. I'm sure you can do a lot better - you definitely have better turning skills than me.

Nice job on the stopper Dan!
i wonder if you wiped on a coat of thin CA or a sealer after turning...before sanding would help keep the bleeding in check. Maybe someone else has some thoughts on this.
