Lots of things to correct in the technique, but I put it together just enough
to get a photo, so the kit isn't wasted.

Still need to sort out the seam issue. Black Sharpie doesn't cut it, as it
bleeds into the white. (end keys)

Gold inks aren't as sparkly in resin as they are out in the light.

The white ink does a decent job brightening the white parts, rather than
just leaving the white color of the label to do it.. just need to remember
to actually USE the white ink!

Need to ream out the tubes before assembly.. they split when pressed.
Cracks and splits are hidden on the back, out of the photo. you can just
make out the reflection of one of the cracks hidden in back.
I think I'll glue rather than press fit. Anyone know a good source for reams?
(all the sizes we use? or is there an adjustable one? I know nothing ..)

Is there a way to further harden the outside of the resin? It seems like it
marks up easily even though it is cured. Or is 24 hours enough?
I'd hate to think I need 20 coats of CA over the resin

Need more resin. Need rubber stoppers. Need ream. Need to make molds.
Need new blade for the bandsaw. Need quick release tensioner for bandsaw
.. need to marry a rich woman who will let me play in the shop all day and
make love all night.

I think we all need that mate :) Good to here you're still plugging away.I've had to put the label efforts oh hold for a bit as I'm too time poor. Lucky if I can get a few plain colour casts done at the moment.

I noticed recently that a cast I'd left for a week seemed a lot harder than one I might have turned after a day, so maybe try waiting a little longer (hard to do, I know).

Naah.. I'm in the same boat, but not traveling as much as you are.
Not enough hours in the day, that's all.

I spent the whole day in the shop today, determined to finish a clock, cut
and drill some blanks for pens, perfume atomizers, try making a box like
the one in the tutorial on the front page (Nice tutorial, VisExp! ) and re-wire
the cable in the other half of the shop and make a mold for casting
the cigar and Jr gent pens.

Re-wire went ok, but got hung up downloading new drivers. That was
about 3 hours.. Started on the clock, spent another 1.5 hours unpacking
boxes so I could find my 5/16 forstner bit (never found it) and a 45 degree
chamfer bit for the router. Then another half hour of busy work when I
realized that I STILL haven't finished building the router cabinet.. I never
finished the top so I could mount the fence. I got 90% of the way through
it and started using the router cabinet as my pen assembly table.
(great height) Got as far as lacquering the wood scraps to make the molds
but that was it. No blanks, no clock, no perfume atomizers ..
but it was an enjoyable few hours in the shop nonetheless.

There was no rush though. I can't afford to get resin yet.. too many other
projects and bills waiting for the next several paychecks..
