Turned this bowl yesterday out in the oven, er, shop. I've had this particular blank for a long time (15+ years) so it was bone dry. The final bowl is about 5.5" across and is quite light due to the dryness of the wood. I'm not sure if it's maple or beech.

And I got to use my vacuum chuck to remove the tenon & add some decorative rings.

First class job on the bowl! I don't have a vacuum chuck but one of our club members does. It is pretty cool!

I agree as to the beech with those flecks in the grain. Nice spalted piece for sure!
