This has nothen to do with wood at all so hope I am not in vilation of any rules.
I taugh a blacksmithing class this week-end on can welding. Which is where you put metal (nickel 200, ball bearings, etc.) in steel tubing fill the voids with powdered 1084 steel and forge weld solid.
This is a snake I made as a demo.
Steps: 1) is forming the snake with nickel 200 strips 2) filling the can with powdered steel and sealing 3) forge welding solid then grinding the can away 4) acid etch with feric cloride and the snake appears.
C&C welcome

That is pretty cool William. Now, what do you do with something like that?

Ray

You could make a knife out of it, a belt buckle or a scraper or..... let your imagination run wild. The powdered steel is 1084 a high carbon tool steel so you can make almost anything. The nickel runs through the the billet so no matter how you grind it the snake will still show.
