Yes, I might have used CA to fill the grain and probably will next time.

Great Segmentation Mark,
You mention using CA to fill grain in the future,
What finish did you use?
Only suggestion I could make other than the Finish, would be to consider using some Brass Shim Stock say 0.025" or 0.030" thick either side of insert.
Mark also could you tell us what timbers and kit did you use?

The idea about brass will definitely happen, thanks.

The wood was curly maple and padauk inlay. Now I know why I have saved a gallon sized ziplock of cutoffs.

That's one classy pen. Like the pretty wood combo, the inlay is a great accent which complements the kit. Great job!
