I wanted try out a couple new techniques (new to me anyway) on one of my segemented stoppers. This is the end result.

I'm fairly happy with the results. I need to pay a little closer attention to the drilling for the toothpicks. A couple of them are not as centered in the walnut pieces as I would like.

here's a close-up shot to show the details a little better.

Total pieces: 137

That's nice, a little busy for my tastes, but nice none the less

What about some brass instead of toothpicks? That would look good in the sapele

Man, that is amazing! I wish I had the patients to do that. I am getting there, but it is slow going. Nice job.

Thanks guys. These have been a lot of fun to make.
I like the brass idea Justin. Aluminum might be a good alternative as well...

It's been taking 3+ hours for each stopper.

I think the stopper is first rate. It shows imagination and the work and time that go into it does show and to me is well worth it.

How are you cutting your segments???
Is that the new stainless stoppers??
What type finish did you put on it???

Thanks for showing and look forward to seeing some more.

John:
I cut my segments using a jig inserted into my table saw sled (I use brand new pencils with cap erasers to hold down the segments as they are cut to keep my fingers out of harms way).

This is one of the new stainless steel stoppers. I used a forstner bid to drill a recess to work around that silly ridge that's on the stopper.

I used the same CA/BLO finish that I use on my pens. Thanks again Russ Fairfield!

Thank you Gary!
