Any of you have or know of a good source for wall clock plans? not the kind where you drill a hole with a forstner bit for an insert, but the ones where you cut the gears themselves. I know there is a gent in Hawaii that sells plans for $33 a pop, but that seems rather pricey just to get some lines and circles that are drawn on a piece of paper or so.

Would also be interested in locating information on gear makeups..ie how many gears, diameter , # teeth required in order for a clock to be functional.

You might try Klockit.
I think they have a website, but I don't know how I started getting it, but their catalog comes regularly.
I got a set of plans from them a while back for all wood gear clock for scroll saws. I am about half done. Not too difficult. Very time consuming.

I've purchased plans from Clayton in Hawaii. If you get the plans, you'll realize they are worth the money. His plans are very complete and easy to follow. Not just drawings, but assebly instructions.

You can also get plans from:
Mark - http://wooden-clockworks.com/
Brian - http://www.woodenclocks.co.uk/index.htm
Someone else - http://www.clockplans.com/
Or if you enjoy pain, check out Nicks plans - http://members.iinet.net.au/~andronis/

For learning follow the links on Ricks site - http://www.remmepark.com/manchesterclockworks/index.html
And Bob has some good info - http://www.woodenworksclocks.com/
And see the work Rabbit has done - http://flashpages.prodigy.net/rpirtle/index.html
The best site to learn how it all works is Gary's Wood Clocks page, which is currently down as he searches for a new provider.

I took the time last year to learn about the mechanics of a clock and clock escapements. I've built and sold my first clock - http://penworks.bauerglobal.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=302
Which was based on Clayton's #6 plans. I'm currently working on another semi-original design based on John Pickron's work. And I'm working on the design of a completely original clock. Granted, I'm cheating a bit with these. I built my own CNC router to do the cutting for me, much more accurate and infinitely faster. For those about to cry foul, it does speed up cutting, but it doesn't eliminate the endless hours of hand sanding and fine tuning.

I have not attempted a wooden gear clock yet, but I have Clayton's site bookmarked because he makes some beautiful clocks.

As one who draws lines and circles with some words on paper for a living, I would like to point out that it is not the lines, circles and words you are paying for. It is the knowledge of where to put them.;):D

Had Clayton's site up just as wife walked by and I ended up ordering 2 sets of plans from him.

Now I need to tune up my scroll saw skills or figure out how to build a cnc rather quickly.
