I am using sanding sealer for the first time. What grit do you sand upto before you apply the sealer. After sealer is dry what grit do you start with.

That's a loaded question, it's all gonna depend on your prefereances.
I usually sand to 600, apply the sealer then start at 1500MM and do all the MM before applying the final finish.

That's just one way, there will be lots more.

Terry--there's no right answer to the question you pose. Even the responses leave a lot of room for debate. I offer a picture rather than a grit number.

This is a piece of African blackwood that, in my opinion, is ready for sanding sealer. It will probably take two coats, both of which will be sanded back to bare wood. At that point I should have a nice level surface to start finishing...at least I hope I do.

Wayne: For your "second sanding", do you start with a coarser grit and work back up to 12,000 or do you just start with 12,000? Thanks.
