I made these three pens from wooden hickory ladder rungs from the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD). The ladders these pens were made from started out 100 years ago as 50 foot extension ladders.

The SFFD reuses their ladders and in this case a 50 foot ladder, over the years, became an attic ladder and then retired.

Once I turned the wood, I used water based amber stain to give it the desired color followed by rubbing a burned piece of wood over it to give it that used look. Finally, I covered it with CA.

Larry, Great to reuse Significant Wood,
and you can't get more Significant than a Firemans Ladder
The matching of the kits to the timber is terrific.
I love your treatment of the Finish, I haven't heard of wiping with a piece of Burnt Wood before, but if it did the trick, and produced that Finish then Fantastic thats something else I've learnt.
Congratulations.
Brian.
