Did some engraving on fairly dark wood and it does not stand out. Was thinking about using some rub n buff filler. I have seen that referenced here before.

Do you ca finish over it?

How long lasting is it?

Is there a better option?

I put a CA finish on the blank before engraving. Then use the rub n buff. It's easier to clean up around the engraving. I wouldn't even try to use the stuff on bare wood.

I had a guy in Florida engrave some pens for me a couple of times. He filled them with paint. (model I think)

Acrylic paint works well. Be careful, as anything that will fill in the engraving will also get in the surrounding wood, too. If it does, wait for the paint to dry and then sand any extra paint off.

I don't put a finish over the paint, some people do, and I don't try to fill up the entire depth of the engraving with paint. I just want the engraving to stand out against the wood or other blank material.
