Several years ago, I made this Aero pen using the Rose Gold plating. I thought it was the best match for this dyed box elder blank....I still do.
However,....The plating does not hold up for us. I took the blank off and put it on another Rose Gold Aero kit I had and it is doing the same thing.

Is anyone else having these issues or is it just us? Being a finial twist, you touch the finial more...Still, I didn't expect this. None of the other pens with the various platings have done this.
Anyone else been here, done this?

As I understand it, rose gold is a mixture of gold and copper. Neither is known for its durability, so I would expect it to wear off easily.

Perhaps some makers of "rose gold" may coat it with an epoxy protective layer, which COULD work.

Personally, I never used rose gold---based on my fear, not experience!!

That finial is absolutely terrible. Is it worn off or tarnished?

I bought one and won't buy another just based in looks. This only adds to it.

It does go well enough with that wood though.

Dan, I would say both. It appears that the center of the finial has worn through to a base metal and the surrounding area has tarnished. Might try some Bar Keepers Friend on it just out of courosity.
