I am making a rocking horse for my son and need some help. I am thinking about making it out of oak but I know its not the easiest to work with. Anyways what is a good wood to use and what is a good price. I need about 10bf of 1 x 12 and 10bf of 2 x 12.

The first one I made was out of yellow pine from the lumber store. A lot less expensive for the first one. Looked pretty good in my opinion. Here's a picture of one in pine and one in walnut. My next one is going to be oak.

I made mine from construction lumber . I picked out pieces with least amount of knots and were straight then I painted it. Mine is the same stile as Maxwell Smart007
