For a personal gift for my wife I went to the ole internet and ordered a bunch of goodies.
This is what I ended up turning on the lathe for my wife.
Wood is Cocobolo I had in the shop.

Does it have an insert? I've never heard of a 100% wooden ring that lasted more than a few days.
Did you use the ring inserts from Craft Supplies? I made a pair out of Purpleheart. His was an 8mm, hers was a 3mm. Hers split in half after a couple of days. I'm back to the drawing board with a different type metal insert.

The metal split in half or just the wood? I wouldn't do anything less than 4-5 mm for strength and so the grain is more visible.
