The blank is called Feaux Granite, and I'll let RandyWA go into how he made it. This was a tough blank to turn, I don't think I have a sharp tool left in my shop. That being said, any blank that didn't fly apart on the lathe was a good one. I like the end result. I needed to finish a one piece, as my other project is stalled temporarily. I felt that this would be a good billboard for the blank.

My arms are a bit too tired from coercing the blank to do my bidding. I'll sharpen them back up next time I go back downstairs.

I wish the pics could capture the partial translucence on this one. You can see into the surface, but the tubes aren't painted and there's no darkening of the color to speak of.

I can really see it doing well on some of the beefier capped kits. Mand maybe on a cigar with the satin pearl finish.
