Hi All!
Since i have finished my pen swap pen and cleaned up the workshop, i decided to finish a request pen from my step daughter.
She loves purple so naturally i got some Purpleheart
in and she loved it! She wanted a "Lucky Exam Pen"
Unfortunately the outside was a bright purple and the inside was a kind of dull purple/brown combination.
I was not too pleased by the colour!!!
And then i remembered!!!!
A few months ago the kids wanted to make tye dyed shirts and i still had a lot of the dye left!!! A plan came to mind...
I am still working on the photography part of it...
I made a light box, but i do not have bright enough lights to really flood the box with a good quality light...I only have two 20Watt halogens that i have directly above the lathe.
I also played around with the white balance and found some settings that work quite well!!
So here it is!
Purpleheart dyed with a purple blend, not too sure what the type of dye is but once it touches skin you are that colour for a few weeks, and finished off with 6 coats of CA/BLO, MM to 12000, Brasso polish and then Nu Finish car polish and a coat of Conservators wax!
Comments always welcomed!!!
Andrew
ps: I have only been turning for two monthw now....
