A few weeks ago I came across a piece of Purple Wood Flat Bean (Dalbergia nitidula). It is only the second time in my lifetime that I have seen this wood. Looks like a purple Cocobolo. Ended up selling all the flawless blanks, but kept all the odd pieces. Here is a Sierra that I turned, filling the small cracks in the sap wood with some brass dust. The other piece in the photo had a pithy section all the way thru. Removed most of it and will fill it with resin for a later project.
The second pen is a modified slim line that I call an Alexandra, after my wife who inspired me to make her a 'slim' Sierra look alike. Black sections is African Blackwood with Pink Ivory, Snake Bean and Wild Olive Burl segments separated with brass washers.
