First time turning Purple Heart, my neighbor chimed in thankfully and said he saw something about hitting it with a torch to bring the purple out. Worked like a charm!

Two more beautiful pens, nice job. Purple Heart darkens with heat or more slowly with exposure to light. A day in sunlight will change the just turned brown to a nice bright purple. With time it will continue to darken to the color of your pen above. Too much heat will turn it almost black.

Just be aware that over time, the color may change. Fortunately, purpleheart is photo-reactive...you can bring out the purple by placing it in sunlight. I've also had good experiences leaving it under a full-spectrum lamp for a day or so. As always, your mileage may vary.

Gorgeous !!

How do you apply the torch heat ? .... with the blank turning slowly on the lathe and waving the torch back and forth ?
