These are slightly different than some of my previous, but for whatever reason BOTH pens were problemetic from the start. They were a PITA as a PITH!!
The Chevron pen, after I turned the bottom blank was certainly not a match for the upper blank Padauk (maybe bloodwood??), so I had to re do the entire bottom blank. My system of using one 5-6" blank for both sections failed me as I apparently got the lower half substituted. The Red veneer was a different appearance vs black, but it seemed to match the Padauk.
For the second pen I used Mun Ebony (Ebony and Maple trim rings), and it had no interest in any finish of any kind. I refinished it over and over and over. In the end, it came out OK. I believe I sanded all previous finishes off, burnished it, and then applied EEE and buffed.
All came out respectable, and have been received by Darley in "Aussie Land."
