I have looked in the forums and generally online, but no luck...
does anyone know a source where I can get small amounts of pickguard?

I just purchased a couple of sheets from Stewart MacDonald at http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Pickguards.html and received good service. These are fairly large sheets but the keep well in the refrigerator (just kiddin') and you could always share the excess with other turners. The sheets are about 11"x19" and cost $14 plus shipping. I've suggested to some local suppliers that they sell this in 3/4" strips but none has stepped up yet. Maybe some of the suppliers here will consider it. I can't find the red-white-red that used to be available so I ordered the B-W-B and the W-B-W. Hope that helps.

Try the guitar repair shops. I bought several pieces very cheap.

You can also get small amounts from CSUSA, and as said in the thread a lot of guitar shops sell it.
