I must be in a slump! I am having problems face turning pendants. I've had some problems keeping blanks on the waste block, Keeping them centered, and the proper method to turn the face. I'm pretty new at turning (less than a year), but it shouldn't be this hard! I guess I just need to see it done and work from there. Any suggestions?

I put a waste block between my pendant and live center (installed on my Tailstock) and true it that way. I also turn down most of the face that way then pull it back and do light cuts on the face.

Having your waste block absolutely square on both ends is essential if you are using tape. You need all of the tape to stick to the surface of the block and the pendent. I also use a scrap block between the pendent and the tail stock and bring the tail stock up tight to let the tape set up. You can make the pendent round at this point while waiting for the tape to set up.
