I was so excited to get the Cav Uni Pink blanks from Dawn that I drilled one with too large a bit. I was a bit bummed, but like any good packrat I refused to throw it away. The other night the remainder of a waste block that had ended up next to the goof. As I moved stuff around the blank ended sitting on the block. "Hmmm," I thought "that almost looks like a pen holder." So I mounted the blank, turned & polished it. Of course the hole wasn't big enough for a pen, so I reamed it out using the side of a drill bit in the drill press. I mounted the block on the faceplate, sanded it and finished it. Drill the hole at an angle & glued the blank in.
The wife thinks it's odd & yes it is, but it's an experiment. I would have liked to have mounted the blank off center and turned the upper portion so it wasn't centered, but maybe next time.
