I don't know how many of these Duofold style pens I've made, but I never get tired of them. The photos should have been done on a gray background, not white. The colors would show better. Thanks for looking. Comments appreciated.

Great looking pen. Love the blank and the craftsmanship on it.
Two questions I hope you or anyone else can answer.
First. It seems to me that the section holder where the ink conversion fits its quite shallow, not having finished any kitless pens yet it leads me to ask if the depth of where the cartridge fits matters much.
Second. Hod do you polish the treads of the body?
Thanks and congrats on such nice looking pen.

Thanks, Alex.

The converter--or cartridge if you choose to use one--will fit snugly into the section drilled with a 7 mm bit. The fit is actually perfect with my 7 mm bit. If you have made the section a little long and you need to push in the converter beyond the metal end, you will need to drill into the end of the section a little with a K bit because the plastic part of the converter is just a hair bigger than the metal part. The K bit gives a perfect fit for the plastic part of the converter.

A converter plugs into a holder very securely and will stay engaged with the holder even without a section surrounding them. The cartridge however does not engage securely and needs the support of the section surrounding it. So in planning a section, it's best to allow enough length to provide a receptacle for a cartridge.

As for the threads, the acrylic material I use most of the time is hard enough to give me nice smooth threads. Of course, you must lube the die and tenon before cutting. When I finish a pen, I don't try to avoid the threads when I sand, except for the coarsest grits. From about 400 up, I sand the threads as well as the rest of the pen. I know some take pride in having sharp threads, but in the case of the barrel tenon threads, smoother is better in my opinion. Not only will you avoid the unpleasant sensation of sharp threads, but the cap will screw onto the barrel more smoothly.
