Hey All
Here is a combination Mechanical Pencil and Letter Opener I made from Newfoundland Birch.
It is coated with 10 coats of Cyanoacrylate and buffed to a mirror finish. It is based off a Cigar Style 0.7mm Mechanical Pencil and Capstone Letter Opener. The pencil mechanism is amazingly smooth and precise.
Newfoundland Birch is an amazing wood, but Burls are very rare. I spend a lot of time in the woods in Newfoundland hunting and fishing, and in 10 years I've found less than 10 Birch Burls. The largest was only 10" in diameter.
The wood is amazingly figured and shows boundless depth and character. No stains or oil were used as I wanted to show the woods natural colour.
Hope you like it!
