I'm just getting back in to pen turning after about twenty years. I'm using a bunch of old Parker style pen kits. I've done four or five, and I always run in to the same problem. The transmission is really stiff, sometimes won't turn at all, and always end up dying/getting stuck to where the ink refill won't retract anymore. Any suggestions?

Are these 20 year old kits? If so the lubricant is probably solidified. You could try some gentle warming and then turn them a lot to get things going again. I don't know if is possible to lubricate them again. Someone will know.

I would guess that the grease has dried up inside the transmissions. A drop of light machine oil and working them back a forth a few times should free them up.
