New to turning and have made these.

All are just sanded and then a homemade finish mixture is applied.
Finish is 1/3 BLO, 1/3 DNA and 1/3 shellac.

Finishing mix aside, you can add some shine naturally to the wood right before finishing by polishing the barrels with wood shavings (from the pen barrel itself) at low RPMs ...

Doing so shouldn't affect the way the pen barrels absorb that mix, I believe ...


Alternatively, sanding up to 1000 grit leaves an extremely smooth outer surface for your pens too, and this definitely wont adversely affect your finish. :)
