Hello all,

I have been woodworking for a few years but I am in no way an expert.. I consider myself a beginner.. I have recently purchased a lathe (2 weeks ago) and have burned through 40 pen kits practicing turning.. I have attached a few pictures of my few pens I have made.. They are all slimline, as I found those are the cheapest to learn on.. I am currently only doing a friction polish, but I bought a ton of CA glue to start trying to learn how to do that finish..

Thanks!

Welcome to IAP, Michael !!!!

What material did you use for the barrels on the pen in the 5th picture ... the pen with the satin nickel nib, centerband and clip ?

Looks beautiful !!!!

G'day and welcome from South Australia.

Friction Polish is all you need for acrylics and woods where a natural finish is desired, the CA finish has many variations and I would suggest you view some Youtube videos of the various applications processes.

Please avoid the CA fumes, a simple fan pushing the fumes away from your face is a good start but if you are the to develop and allergies, other preventive methods may be required.

Best of luck.

Cheers
George

I think you are referring to this one? This one is black palm.. this wood is a royal pain to work with.. I cracked one blank drilling it it and one using the barrel trimmer..
