Hi Everyone,

I am new to woodworking, for about the last 6 months, one day when I was at Rocklers the guy said why don't you try making a pen, so I made one on my drill press and after making my first pen about 1 month ago I was hooked. Bought a mini lathe and have had so much fun every day.

Here is one of the pens I made this week, Cambridge Hybrid, Sterling Silver with Gold, Cancun Pen Blank, both came from Beartoothwoods.com, and the finish is 6 coats of Flexible CA and polished with Micro Mesh.

I joined this group so I could take my pen making to the next level, yesterday I made my first Segmented Pen it was quite challenging. I am looking forward to many years of pen making.

Tim

Great looking pens, Tim. Welcome from another in So. Cal.

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.
http://www.penturners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42446

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.

Thanks for the props, I have always been good at making things and thought I would take up Woodworking so that when I retire next year in November I will have something to do and keep busy and out of trouble.
