I am using the 5" peppermill kit from craft supplies usa.

first turn blank round

then drill main body. 1 1/2" hole 3/8" deep then 1" hole completely through blank. after drilled i part off excess to make main body 3 1/2" long

then i start a basic shaping of the main body.

then i drill top with 1/4" hole completely through.

Now I start the basic shape and tenon. the tenon is 1/2" in length, diameter is just big enough to fit inside the main body hole. total length of top is 2"

Next make a jam chuck out of scrap wood. the diameter of the cone is just big enough to slide into main body of peppermill.

put complete peppermill on jam chuck and bring up tailstock.
now just finish turn to shape, sand and finish.
