Wow, those are terrific! Yet another thumbs up. I like the laminations as well, care to let us know what wood the pens are made from?

I wish I could let you know what the wood was but I'm just not sure. I bought a box of "seconds" off of Ebay so I could learn and not spend a ton of money. I do believe the material in the below picture is maple...spalted maple, which is driving me nuts. I swear a paperclip weighs more than a block of this stuff and a hard sneeze will make it blow up when turning it down. I've gotten to the point were I'll start sanding when I'm 3/16" oversized. Any tips on how to make this stuff hold up. I've made one good pen out of five blocks of spalted (woodworkers must've not cared for the word rotten)maple...that's not even good for a baseball player.

great color combinations, the one just right of center really caught my eye. they all look great. and yes it has often struck me that we want the wood others wouldn't keep as fire wood to make pens out of.
