Lately I have been turning a lot of antler pens it seems. Here is a picture of some of them. I told a nephew that I wanted some antler and a couple times a week he shows up with more. I have so many blow outs that I use a lot of it.
Very nice pens,
I have tried to make one and as soon as I cut the antler on my band saw I couldn't take the smell. I had to leave my workshop and the smell didn't leave until the next day. My question to you is does it smell that bad when you are turning it too? I am dying to make one but don't know if I can stand the smell.
The smell is terrible. It smells like burning hair and the smell will get into your clothes. I wear a mask to keep the dust out of my nose but I still smell it.
Paul, I recommend a good mask that works for paint fumes. I got mine at Home Depot and it has replacable filters. Does a good job getting rid of the smell. Kirk [8D]
