Is HF an overstock place? I was looking today at their 8 pc carving tool set someone mentioned on another post and it said something about the manufacturer not letting them disclose the name, which is kind of like what overstock.com does- tell you you're getting a brand name, but then you don't know what it is til you get it. So does anybody know what brand this moisture meter is?

Angela,
USUALLY, HF sells their own tools (Chicago Electric, Chicago Machine, etc.), but they also do carry some overstock and close-out stuff. The moisture meter is one of theirs, I believe - I have one.

I have 2 moisture meters, Lignomat Mini pinned and a Wagner L609 pinless

When I use them properly I get the same reading from both.

I have a friend who purchased the $20 HF moisture meter. He came over to show me his new meter and found that is was off by 2% to 6% depending on the species.

Now I'm not saying all of the meters sold by HF are like this one. What I'm saying is if you have one check it against another meter and adjust your reading IF necessary.

Here is a great article about drying lumber. http://tinyurl.com/7amtq
