My Milwaukee 14.4 cordless drill batteries haven't been holding a charge as well as they used to. I thought I might as well start looking around to see what replacements would cost me because these are probably on the way out. Ouch! I could almost buy a new drill for what it costs to replace these battery packs.

Then I stumble on a Milwaukee 14.4 battery recall from 2007, but I can't find any mention of it on Milwaukee's website. A little more searching lead me to these documents:

I called Milwaukee and now I'm in the process of have two new batteries shipped to me. I have to ship these back first (on their dime of course), then they will ship the new ones to me. Bummer is the replacement process leaves me without power for a short time, but I'm glad that my batteries didn't give me any problems over the years.

One thing I will say is the customer service from Milwaukee was excellent. No waiting in phone queues, no being put on hold, no being transferred from one department to the next. After pressing 1 for customer service, someone picked up my call immediately. She took care of the problem and had me on my way in less than 5 minutes.

Yes Dave, Milwaukee Tools does have good customer service. I had to send in two out of three of my 18 volt batteries a couple of years ago and got two new ones in about 8-10 days. My brother in law retired as a union carpenter and he swears by Milwaukee tools.
