Masonic Pen

Recently I got interested in doing some casting with PR. After messing up a fair amount of times I came up with this Masonic Square & Compass which ain't perfect, but I'm headed in the right direction. Thanks for looking and as usual, comments are welcome.

How did you get such clarity in the casting of the symbol? Is the symbol made of metal, plastic? does it have depth to it? did you have to "bend" it over a rod to get the curvature?
Sorry for all the questions; however, this is the cleanest casting with such detail on the subject symbol that I have ever seen.
