My latest, done between centers on JohnnyCNC bushings. This between center thing could really save me a lot of headache.
Anyway, a simple Sierra with maple burl:
and my first attempt at a cartridge pen with a Winchester 30-06 and deer antler:
The cartridge is a kit by Eric at Little River Crafts (Sylvanite), purchased with his generous IAP support discount!
Both are CA/BLO finish, minimum 4 coats (the antler has 8, but some were wet sanded through and had to be re-done). Both also are turned to within 0.01" of matching diameter, even if it doesn't look like it in these photos. On the Sierra, you cannot feel the transition between the wood and gold band with your eyes closed. Did I mention I'm pleased with this between centers turning thing?
I'm not thrilled with the antler, I picked a piece that I thought would show more outside (per commission request), but it turned smaller than anticipated. Still, I won't be ashamed to sell either one.
