Manu Propria - Sakuragawa-Nuri Fountain Pen

This is a fountain pen with a urushi technique called cherry bark lacquer "sakuragawa-nuri" also "ôhi-nuri" or "juhi mitateai" bark lacquer, lacquer techniques imitating the color and surface of tree bark. In Japan the bark of the cherry tree has been used to decorate many different things, mainly tea and kitchen utensild like tea caddies, trays and so on.

What type of lacquer did you use? Iguess what I am trying to say, is can this be done with standard lacquer or did you use some special type?

The lacquer is urushi, natural sap harvested from a special tree. I could imagin that synthetic lacquer can be used as well. But Urushi hardens to Mohs 6, as hard as glass. Befor I worked with urushi I uswed synthetic lacquers but could never reach the quality of Urushi

Stephen, here is a link to a site in Japan that sells Urushi lacquer and it's associated products to obtain a Urushi finish. Having the products is not even a 10th of what you need, now the learning process will be months of llearning if not years.
